    The Reformist BR Chopra

    The Reformist BR Chopra
Francis Ford Coppola once exclaimed, “I think cinema, movies, and magic have always been closely associated. The earliest people who made films were magicians.” In our part of the woods, we believe BR Chopra was that early magician who taught everyone else the tricks of the trade. Films like Naya Daur and Sadhna were a reflection of the times. Social dramas that reflected upon the India of the ’50s was Chopra’s strength.
He was also one of the first filmmakers to advocate the cause of women and feature strong women characters in gems like Afsana and Ek Hi Rasta. BR Chopra was the ace of movie making business and films like Gumraah, Hamraaz, Insaaf Ka Tarazu and Pati Patni Aur Woh proved his versatility. You can safely call him the father of commercial Hindi cinema.
