Deepika Padukone Steals Katrina Kaif’s Thunder!

“Two actresses can never be friends,” so goes the age-old adage in Bollywood. It is said that two top heroines can never see eye-to-eye, and two contemporary leading ladies will never be able to get along. What ensues are catfights and women wars, which leave everyone shocked at the ferocity at which these lovely ladies battle it out.

In Bollywood especially, women wars have been common since time immemorial. Heroines have always tried to be one up on each other, and in the process end up stepping on each other’s toes. A whole lot of mudslinging and tantrum throwing ensues in the chaos.

Some of the most popular, explosive catfights in recent times have involved Bollywood’s A-list heroines. Be it Katrina Kaif, Deepika Padukone, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Rani Mukherjee or Kareena Kapoor; everyone seems to have their own tale of discord and disharmony.

Katrina Kaif and Deepika Padukone are the latest heroines to be locked in combat. Eating into each other’s space has been a constant with them, but now the fight has escalated because Deepika has reportedly bagged Imtiaz Ali’s next project with Ranbir Kapoor, which Katrina was vying for.

Said a source, commenting about the latest development in this particular catfight: “Katrina was keen to do Imtiaz’s next as she’s never worked with him before. Also, she was the first actress to make a hit pair with RK and she wants to recreate that on-screen. especially now that he is being touted as the next best thing. Besides, working with him would also mean spending some quality time with her beau. Kat was crestfallen when she heard she had lost the role to Dips and now she is sulking.”

However, Katrina stepped on another actress’s toes just yesterday, by bagging a film that Priyanka Chopra was eyeing for a long time. Katrina has been chosen for Kabir Khan’s next, over top contender Priyanka, as her dates opened up due to the delay in the schedule of ‘Bang Bang’ (as Hrithik Roshan is still recovering from a head injury).

In the wake of such storming catfights, here’s a look at the most memorable she-wars to have rocked Bollywood (not as bad as the big, bad Salman-SRK tussle, but we’ll talk about that one at another time!) over the years:

Main Heroine Hoon- Kareena Kapoor and Aishwarya Rai: Aishwarya had quite an ugly spat with a co-actress, when she was replaced by Kareena Kapoor in Madhur Bhandarkar’s ‘Heroine’. The fracas only heightened the divide in their personal relationships (as Kareena’s sister Karisma was initially to have wed Abhishek Bachchan)

Kareena does it again! This time she takes out Priyanka Chopra, over a hapless Shahid Kapoor: Priyanka Chopra and Kareena Kapoor were once thick friends, but soon turned enemies when they were practicing for the same award function, and Priyanka’s practice time ate into Kareena’s rehearsal time. The issue got compounded when Priyanka made fun of Kareena’s character in ‘Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham’ and then the two even allegedly fought over Shahid Kapoor, who was dating Kareena back then.

Her spat with Bipasha Basu began on the sets of ‘Ajnabee’, in which they both starred, and escalated on the couch! On Karan Johar’s chat show ‘Koffee with Karan’, Kareena restarted the catfight by calling Bipasha’s then boyfriend expressionless, to which Bips then responded in another episode saying “Kareena Kapoor has too many expressions on her face!”

Rani Mukherjee ‘Chalte Chalte’ Ousts Aishwarya Rai: Aishwarya Rai was unceremoniously ousted from Shah Rukh Khan’s ‘Chalte Chalte’ because her then-boyfriend Salman Khan had reportedly caused a ruckus on sets. Rani bagged the role, and firmly entrenched her in the SRK camp and for a long time Shah Rukh Khan did not work with Aishwarya Rai.

‘Kaho Na Pyaar Nahin Hai’- Kareena Kapoor and Ameesha Patel: The catfight began when Kareena opted out of Rakesh Roshan’s ‘Kaho Na Pyaar Hai’, a role which Ameesha Patel eventually bagged. The film went on to become a blockbuster hit, and Kareena and Ameesha have never seen eye-to-eye since then.
